Is Low Bile Causing Your Digestive Issues?

By February 3, 2021 No Comments

We can feed our bodies all the right foods, but if we are not digesting and absorbing food properly then we are not getting all the wonderful nutrients that food is meant to fuel us with.

According to Dr Lipski, poor digestion is caused by:

  • Poor chewing and rushed eating
  • Hydrochloric acid insufficiency(HCL)
  • Bile salt insufficiency
  • Enzyme insufficiency
  • Lack of dietary fiber

Each of these play a role in digestion. Hydrochloric acid insufficiency(HCL) helps breakdown protein, bile salts help breakdown fats, and enzymes help breakdown fats, carbohydrates, protein, pectins, and phytic acid.

What is Bile so important?

1.Bile supports our bodies in many ways. Bile is produced by the liver, stored in the gallbladder and released when we eat fatty meals and finally absorbed in the small intestine.

2.Bile is made from cholesterol and it is the main way that we eliminate cholesterol and toxins from our bodies. In addition to cholesterol it helps to metabolize glucose.

3.One study also concluded that bile acids and insulin work together to help regulate metabolism of nutrients in the liver.

4.The composition of bile also greatly impacts our gut bacteria.

5.Finally, bile helps breakdown fat soluble vitamins such as vitamin A,D,K,E.

For individuals that had their gallbladder or ileum removed, or individuals with liver issues they don’t concentrate enough bile acids.

How do we test for low bile?

Testing for low bile acid is done through endoscopy and stool testing with fecal fat.

How do we support bile production?

1.Foods and herbs that help stimulate bile acids are referred to as cholagogues. These include:

  • radish
  • dandelion
  • chicory
  • mustard greens
  • turnip greens
  • artichokes

2. Bile salt or TUDCA supplements. If you had your gallbladder removed or have liver disease bile salt dosage would be between 200-1000mg with foods. To order professional grade supplements access here: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/honoryourcore

3.Taurine and Glycine also help increase normal bile. To order professional grade supplements access here: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/honoryourcore
